Middle School Campaign
Middle School Poster Contest
Statistics are identifying middle schools as the starting point for destructive teen decisions. Every year more middle schools in Florida are recognizing the importance of having a SADD chapter at their school. To encourage middle school students to become a part of SADD, FLORIDA SADD is hosting a poster contest for middle schools with a registered SADD chapter.
The goal of this contest is to increase SADD awareness and its alcohol free & never riding with an impaired driver message at your school. The winning student will have their poster used in the Fall 2009 Middle School Campaign. The winning student will be featured in a future FLORIDA SADD newsletter, will have their name and school they attend on the poster we send out with the middle school campaign, and will be awarded a $100 savings bond. The SADD Chapter will receive a $200 allowance to purchase custom products from the FLORIDA SADD catalog.
Criteria for Poster Submissions
FLORIDA SADD has set the following criteria for poster submissions. Please be sure to go over these with your students to ensure compliance and avoid disqualification.
- Only students from schools with a registered SADD chapter are eligible to submit posters for the contest.
- Posters must incorporate creative and original artwork and ideas. Depictions of cartoon, video game, and movie/television characters; celebrities; and movie themes does not constitute creativity and originality.
- Posters must deliver a clear and positive message about making good decisions in regards to both staying alcohol free and never riding with an impaired driver. The SADD theme for next year is Welcome to the Real World and the poster must reflect this theme. Death themes and art displaying negative health consequences (i.e., alcohol, coffins, people drinking, etc.) are not considered positive messages.
- Poster design should not incorporate any copyrighted trademarks or logos from any industry or corporation.
- Posters must be no larger or no smaller than standard size (8 ½” x 11"). Posters need to be on copy paper or card stock only.
- Posters should not be laminated or mounted on mat board. Also, do not staple, glue, or tape entry forms to the backs of posters.
- Ask students to refrain from writing their name or other identifying information on the front of their poster. Poster contest entry numbers should not be marked on the fronts of posters.
- Students may use a variety of media, such as watercolor, pen and ink, crayon, chalk, markers, etc.
- Computer clip art, pictures from magazines and other print media, or any other copyrighted brand or product images will not be accepted.
- Students may not work in pairs or groups.
Failure to comply with the guidelines will result in a disqualification of the poster.
Judging
Posters will be judged on their artistry, creativity, originality, and their ability to communicate a clear and positive message to remain alcohol-free, never riding with an impaired driver, and the theme. Posters will also be judged on their compliance with the criteria listed above. Judging will be done by the Florida Peer Education staff and Florida SADD Media Print Designer.
