June 2010 Calendar Resources

KISS (Keep It a Safe Summer) Campaign

Recent statistics indicate that a very high number of youth fatalities occurs during the summer months of June, July and August. Contrary to the movie Death Takes A Holiday, death does not take holidays. In fact, it rears its ugly head often during the summer months. For this reason, SADD chapters must double their efforts during this time.

The following are some activities you can consider, but use your imagination to develop others.

Sun Safety Week (June 8-14)

Despite an increasing record number of skin cancer cases, largely caused by UV radiation exposure from the sun, the general public fails to understand the importance of following the recommended protective steps for various UV Index levels.

Encourage your students to wear sun screen and other protective wear against the sun. Visit the Sun Safety Alliance www.sunsafetyalliance.org for information and resources.
